Activities

We are open year-round, and each season has its own special charm. If you take the time, there is much to experience at Lugnåsberget. You are right in the heart of nature, and here you can relax and just be. There is truly so much to do in Mariestad!

At Lugnåsberget, it’s easy to find places you’ll love, either on your own or with others. The mountain is marked by millstones and stonemasons, and through the hiking trail Stenhuggarstigen and the Qvarnstensgruvan museum, you’re offered a memorable opportunity to discover the exciting and rocky history of Lugnåsberget.

Lugnåsberget is Västergötland’s smallest table mountain and is located in both the UNESCO biosphere reserve Vänerskärgården with Kinnekulle and the UNESCO Platåbergens Geopark.

Day hikes and hiking trails

At Lugnåsberget, there are marked hiking trails, winding gravel roads, and large forests to walk or run in.

A hike along the shoreline or in the magnificent forest of Vristulven Nature Reserve offers a wonderful nature experience in varied yet easy terrain, with plenty of opportunities to pause at designated fire pits. The area is home to rich wildlife, where you can look for beavers or ospreys, which are often seen soaring over the lake. The forest is abundant with blueberries, raspberries, lingonberries, and mushrooms. The enchanting forest lake can also be experienced from the water by renting a canoe, using your own SUP board, or, if the winter allows, on a pair of long-distance skates. In the summer, Vristulven’s warm waters invite refreshing swims.

The Biosphere Trail between Läckö, Kinnekulle, and Mariestad passes the Eco-Hotel on stage 7 between Mariestad and Kinnekulle.

Cycling holiday with adventure

Lugnåsberget invites you to peaceful bike rides on mostly gravel roads with little traffic. The distances are short, and you will have many pleasant nature experiences and discover new hidden gems. Why not visit the Qvarnstensgruvan café, Vargropen deep in the forest, the legendary Tjuvugnen, the Iron Age hillfort, or the unsold millstones at Kvarnstenstorget.

For those who want to cycle a bit farther, there are several longer bike routes in the surrounding area. For example, it’s 50 km to the Göta Canal and the same distance to the rolling hills of Vallevägen down to Varnhem, about 30 km to the highest peak of Kinnekulle, and about 20 km to Mariestad’s guest harbor and restaurants.
